Hamish McAlpine - Producer

Hamish McAlpine founded Tartan Films as a film distribution company in 1984, and merged with rival distribution company Metro Pictures in 1992. The distribution company was renamed Metro Tartan.
Metro Tartan theatrically distributes ten films a year in the U.K. Past releases have included Cinema Paradiso, Man Bites Dog, Jamon Jamon, One False Move, The Last Seduction, Hate and The Idiots. Recent releases include Lovers of the Arctic Circle, The Last September, julien donkey-boy, In the Mood for Love, Faithless, Audition, Battle Royale, Sex and Lucia, the director's cut of Donald Cammell's Wild Side and the recent restoration of Peter Fonda's The Hired Hand.

McAlpine started Tartan Video as an outlet for the theatrical distribution company's video product, then expanded it to make it Britain's biggest art-house and world cinema label. Tartan controls the catalogues of such renowned filmmakers as Eisenstein, Bergman, Pasolini, Herzog, Truffaut, Ozu, Almòdovar and many others.

Though Tartan Films began as a theatrical distributor, it has now become a vehicle for film production.
Tartan's first production, Ed Gein - starring Steve Railsback and Carrie Snodgress - based on the life of Ed Gein, the Wisconsin murderer who inspired Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs. Ed Gein won Best Film and Best Actor at the 2001 Sitges Film Festival, among other awards, and was an international hit on home video. The second film, Suspicious River, starring Molly Parker and Callum Keith Rennie, based on the psychosexual novel by Laura Kasischke, was shot in Vancouver and premiered at the Venice Film Festival, and was recently nominated for nine 2001 Leo Awards in Canada, winning Best Picture.
The latest Tartan Films production is Ted Bundy, based on notorious serial killer Ted Bundy. Ted Bundy is written and directed by Matthew Bright (Guncrazy, Freeway), and will be the first co-production between Tartan Films and Overseas Filmgroup.
In 2002, Tartan Films will begin production on 16 Years of Alcohol. The project is based on the autobiographical writings of Richard Jobson, who will be directing the film in Edinburgh. Martin Amis' acclaimed novel London Fields has been purchased by Tartan and Chris Hanley (Trees Lounge, Buffalo '66, American Psycho, The Virgin Suicides, Bully). In addition, Tartan and Hanley have also acquired the rights to Jennifer Belle's novel Going Down, which they are currently developing.
Tartan Films also in partnered with Peter Fonda to restore his classic 1971 western The Hired Hand, which was licensed from Universal Pictures and made its gala debut at the 2001 Venice Film Festival.

Michael Muscal - Producer

Michael Muscal began his long career in Hollywood as a Unit Production Manager on many successful and beloved low-budget horror flicks. He had a long association with the movies out of the infamous Brian Yuzna/Stuart Gordon camp: Re-Animator, From Beyond, Dolls and Robojox.

1985's Re-Animator became an instant horror cult classic, and opened the doors for Yuzna and Gordon to successfully pitch a film project to Disney called The Teenie Weenies. After completing five special effects test shots for the project, the Disney production people asked that Muscal stay on to oversee and coordinate all the visual effects for the film that became 1989's smash comedy Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Muscal would continue with this successful franchise, coordinating the special effects for sequel Honey, I Blew Up the Kids and producing all effects for Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. This 3-D movie was voted Best Picture of the year by THEA (the Theme Park Entertainment Association).

Muscal's most recent movies as Visual Effects Supervisor include the cult hit Josie and the Pussycats, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas and Bride of Chucky.

Muscal brought his nearly twenty years of experience in makeup and special effects to create the dark, rich visual effects in the award-winning 2001 film Ed Gein. He was a Co-Producer on that successful film, which starred Steve Railsback and Carrie Snodgress and grossed almost $10 million in its video release.

Muscal's latest project as Producer is Ted Bundy, directed by Matthew Bright and starring Michael Reilly Burke as America's most notorious serial killer.
